(Originally aired on April 22, 2010)

Because of the importance of this show, we've broken from our norm of just streaming the interview clips and decided to make the whole two-hour show available to hear. We've broken it up into two parts for your convenience. Enjoy!

Part 1 :

Jimi Hendrix Tribute - 1 of 2

Part 2 :

Jimi Hendrix Tribute - 2 of 2

We celebrate Jimi Hendrix with a program dedicated to exploring the man, his muse and the breadth of his extraordinary music.

In our exclusive one-hour special, we'll hear ultra-rare interview clips with Hendrix and his bandmates, stellar live cuts from concert and radio performances and alternative versions of Hendrix classics. We'll listen to 2-track home recordings and demos featuring just Hendrix and his guitar, and then compare these initial sketches with the fully produced studio recordings that sprang from them.

We'll spin tracks from classic albums Smash Hits, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland, as well as the latest posthumous Hendrix release, Valleys of Neptune. And we'll dig deep into the vault to find great sounds from the box sets Stages and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and investigate the little-known recordings included in the books Voodoo Child—The Illustrated Legend of Jimi Hendrix, by Martin I. Green and Bill Sienkiewicz, and Jimi Hendrix—An Illustrated Experience by Janie L. Hendrix and John McDermott.

Hearing Hendrix talk about his music and performing with the original Experience sheds light on his creativity and musical influences. To augment these clips, we'll play handpicked cuts that go beyond the typical radio hits to explore the full spectrum of Hendrix's recorded legacy.

Please join us in our audio odyssey as we pay homage to this visionary guitarist and sonic shaman, and discover new dimensions to Hendrix's music.
